Farm Bill

The U.S. farm bill is the primary agricultural and food policy tool of the Federal government of the United States. Currently the farm bill helps commodity farmers by subsidizing grain, cotton, corn, and soy.

This has created a food system filled with sugars (derived from corn) and added fats (derived mainly from soy). Unhealthy foods are the cheapest while fresh fruits and vegetables in our supermarkets are the most expensive.

The distorted prices has effected everything from the pay of farm workers, to the environment, to distorted global food prices, to the global obesity epidemic.

The last farm bill was in 2008. There will be a new farm bill in 2012. We need a farm bill that prioritizes health and our next generation...WE THE YOUTH.
The 2012 Farm Bill is in the veting process currently but the forcast is dark. Big cuts to SNAP and Nutrition Assistance Programs.
Support changes to the food system. Support the YFBR.
